What affects the sale price of used cars?

Author: admin  |  Category: Used cars for sale

For all you car lovers out there.
I have this maths assignment that requires me to state the variables when buying a used car..
I don’t know much about cars and so I don’t have much of a list.
Thanks
what does model trim like LX, GT, LS, ES mean..
sorry I really have NO car knowledge wat so ever

1. Make and model of the car. The more popular it is the more expensive it will be (examples are Honda and Toyota)
2. Overall condition of the car – is it clean inside and out? is it mechanically sound?
3. Mileage – many people are afraid to buy cars that have more than 100,000 miles. However, recent improvements in quality makes it possible for many brands to last way beyond 100,000 miles mark.

LX, GT, LS, ES, etc… – are all trim levels of cars. Some cars are just basic without any features, others come fully loaded with leather seats, and upscale materials, but most cars sold are typically somewhere in between.

Lastly – remember that the car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Market value (what similar cars are going for)
Age, mileage, geographic location, how rare is the car, has it been in an accident, how many owners, is the service history well documented, paint condition, interior condition, does everything work or need maintenance, current economic conditions, and emotions (some people fall in love and will stop at nothing to get it)

To determine the value of the car you can use the infamous Kelley Blue Book or access it online at kbb.com. One of the things that affects the base value of a car is mileage. The average allowable miles for a car is 12000 miles per year. More miles decreases its value and vice versa. Another is model trim like LX, GT, LS, ES etc….. Condition of the car is also a major factor like paint fade, dents, mechanical status among many other things. Title status also plays a part. Some titles bear a salvage status which greatly affects its value. I hope this helps.
