What’s the best way to promote a free online artist exhibit & auction site?

Author: admin  |  Category: Online auction

We’re a small group of artists that have started an online artist exhibit & auction site and want to get people aware of its existence. We want to have people from all over the world display and sell their original and unique work from our site but we have no money for advertising.

Agree that free advertising cost you nothing but time. That is a great way to get targeted traffic to your site. I never pay for advertising because if you take the time to learn the tricks, then you can find free ways to advertise effectively. No other type of advertising is more powerful than word of mouth. Get recommendations from others in the similar industry to be mentioned, promoted or included in an industry-specific ranking or recommendations list.

Use online social networking. Tweet about it on Twitter, open facebook and MySpace accounts for the site and post updates about it, find artists and art lovers on online forums, discussion groups, yahoo groups, blogs etc. and tell them about your site. There are other sites you can use such as Gather.com, put up some pictures on there or write a short article about the exhibits and post it on the gather site. (Don’t try and sell anything there, you just want to get the word out.) Redgage.com is another website similar to Gather.

If it’s a good site and you don’t try to spam these types of social networking outlets you’ll find word of mouth will travel fast.

    Good luck!
